• To preserve and care for the trees and plants currently inhabiting the arboretum property, expand upon arboretum’s living inventory, and continually add to conservation and preservation efforts therein,
• To add and care for new species of plants and trees, both native, non-native, and exotic,
• To educate visitors about basic tree maintenance and care, conservation, and forest management practices,
• To celebrate green spaces, native plants and trees, and the Mississippi outdoor world through events within the arboretum, surrounding community, or state of Mississippi,
• To encourage and allow private or business groups and/or individuals to submit ideas, proposals, or donations to the arboretum in order to encourage community involvement and support,
• To develop an available and active labor pool of volunteers to serve as staff, maintenance, and labor of the arboretum. Such volunteers shall be approved and overseen by arboretum’s Board of Directors or their designee.
• To allow approved volunteer groups and/or individuals to work in the arboretum by assisting with the care and maintenance of the trees, plants, and general landscape.
• To maintain a catalog of arboretum trees that shall be kept in a computer database. This database will utilize GIS technology and will document several attributes of each tree, including but not limited to common name, scientific name, DBH measurements, and condition. This tree archive will be updated as needed by a certified arborist, Old Mountain Arboretum Board members, or Board designee.
• To develop, update, and maintain an arboretum master plan, including short term and long term plans that are approved, developed, and overseen by the Board of Directors.
